Hi ,
my name is richard serrao and i’m the writer and creator of a webcomic by the name of Memento Mori and it’s been on the internet for quite a few years now and has built up quite a following and will be going to print by early next year ,before i started this book ,zombie comics and films had not returned in full force as they’ve had now .I basically wrote this e-mail after seeing what you called this story and wanted to know if you were going to try and lay claim to that name or if you just saw it as something that was public domain .
p.s: to richard serrao, just my sentiments, but i went to check up on the phrase “memento mori” and it appears it’s actually quite a famous quote. I don’t see anything wrong in it being used here, since it has such a brilliant effect in conveying the meaning of this chapter, once you understand it.
It’s just a chapter anyway, and i don’t think you have to right to claim responsibility for bringing back zombie comics and films. To make a point, I didn’t even know about your comic until i read your comment. Rather, i think the interest was brought back due to movies like resident evil. You didn’t create the quote, so leaving the comment was totally uneccesary and juvenile. (not to mention egoistic.)
Re: Grace’s comment -I’m not taking credit for bringing back Zombie comics or movies for that matter and that comment was really meant as an e-mail to the publisher but i made a mistake by sending it as a comment (my mistake) .Yes i know Memento Mori is a famous quote ,i researched it quite a bit before more than 5 years ago .This comment was not meant to bash what Boom has done it was just a question ,nothing more ,nothing less and to call someone’s comments you don’t even know juvenile and with what intention it was said is jumping the gun a bit .If you have any direct comments to me Grace you can e-mail me directly at richard_serrao@yahoo.ca and leave them there,i would be more than happy to talk to you in furhter detail about this if you feel the need .
There are at least 5 published books with the title “Memento Mori, dating back as far as 1959, the most recent one published in 2006. Thus your question would be better directed to one of those authors, rather than one whose use of it will only appear as a “chapter heading” in a larger work.
thank you Rorschach, that’s exactly what i mean .
“before i started this book ,zombie comics and films had not returned in full force as they’ve had now “. i don’t see how this can be interpreted in any other way than you claiming credit for bringing them back. i don’t think i’m overreacting, but i’ve a one-track mind like that.
also, ” basically wrote this e-mail after seeing what you called this story and wanted to know if you were going to try and lay claim to that name or if you just saw it as something that was public domain .” seems to mean you consider it(the name) yours.
i’m not replying further, but this is just what i think.
I really don’t understand how anyone could interpret Richard’s comment as either stating that he brought back zombie comics and films. How very very silly. And getting so upset just because one author is contacting another (even if he mistakenly put it here), due to possible future copyright issues with their comics, seems so very rash and hostile.
Oh well, I guess we can’t all be objective and positive.

Actually, titles are not subject to copyright. So… nobody can really “lay claim” to it.

This might sound off topic considering the debate going on above, but great story. This book is going on my wish-list NOW
